On Monday, April 10, 2023, President Biden signed a bill terminating the national emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Effective April 11, 2023, Higher Education Servicing Corporation (HESC) will no longer offer COVID-19 Forbearances. If you are currently on a COVID-19 Forbearance, it will not extend past May 11, 2023.
To mitigate the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, HESC elected to waive new late fees during the national emergency. Since the national emergency has been terminated, we will begin charging late fees effective May 11, 2023.
For information related to COVID-19 Forbearances for loans owned by the Louisiana Education Loan Authority (Lela) and serviced by HESC, please visit the following link - https://lela.org/lela-covid-19-notice/.
Please note, Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) Loans and private education loans serviced by HESC are not part of the federal payment pause. You are required to make your loan payments. If you do not make your payments, you will be charged late fees and possibly enter default, which could negatively impact your credit or lead to legal consequences.
If you are experiencing difficulties making your loan payments, please contact us at (800) 366-4372 or email us at service@hescloans.com for information about other repayment options. Representatives are available between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday.
Sincerely,
Higher Education Servicing Corporation
